Vance Earl

This past Sunday was my second race back after knee surgery in June.  We have been on a short break for the summer and things are picking back up. I decided to run a Mid East Hare Scramble to get in some seat time before the NCHSA starts back.

I did not get the best start and had to work my way through the pack. Jesse Robinson took the lead and held it for the entire race.  I had made it up to 7th by the first lap and continued to push.  The course was open and fast, but very dusty. There had not been any rain.  This made for dangerous ground for the riders.  My bike was working great making it easier for me to continue.  I made it up to fourth by about the 4th lap.  I held my position and finished 4th overall for the day.

Thanks to everyone who helps me with sponsorship and incentives.  I would not be able to continue without you guys. I greatly appreciate everything.

SUMMARY The course consisted of a good mix of fast, flowing, and technical trail. It was dry and slightly rocky with a late day shower making it slick in spots. I am pleased with the outcome and look forward to building on the positives and correcting the mistakes so I can continue to improve.

Location (City and State)
Fluvanna, TX

Series
National Enduro

Finish
4th

SUMMARY
It was a very hot and dusty day in Texas with temperature around 95 degrees. It was the first time I have ever raced in desert conditions. It was a good experience and went better than I anticipated.

Class Lite A

5 May 2008

Location (City and State)
Rio Grande, OH

Series
OMA

Finish
4th

Tires
Washougal Sticky front and rear

SUMMARY
The conditions were as good as you can get in Southern Ohio. After battling through severe armpump I managed to get up to 3rd before a last lap mistake dropped me back to 4th. I was pleased with the way I rode but know there is room for improvement.

4/20/08
Dist 10 Kentucky Harescrambles Series
Track/Event Name: Mountain Parkway Offroad
Machine/Engine Size: 2007 KTM 250 xcf-w
Front Tire Used: K780F
Rear Tire Used: Carlsbad
Overall Finish: 13th
Moto Finish: 3rd
Current Series Standings: 3rd

Comments on Performance of Tires:
For the biggest part it was going to be a mostly dry race with a few creek crossings for good measure. I thought the front K780F would be a good try on mixed terrain and the Carlsbad would be awesome in the dry stuff.

Report: The course they laid out last year was done with a bulldozer. I was hoping for something a little different this year. I walked the first mile or so and it looked like we were going to run high speeds thru the woods. Don’t get me wrong, I can ride 5th gear wide open in the woods, I just don’t prefer to. When you have an uhoh in the woods at that speed you know it will end with a thump and a lot of moaning.

I went into turn one in 3rd place. We all stayed nose to tail the first lap. At about a third of the way thru the second lap we came up on a hill that had trapped about 50 riders. We all picked a different line to get around and being the first 2 guys had the #1 and #2 picks I got the #3 pick. It wasn’t bad but it was not as good as theirs. I slowly closed the gap the rest of the race but was not able to get around them.

I was pleased with my riding and my result. This was my first time wearing my new MSR Max Air gear and it felt great. I wear knee braces and they have made the pants wider at the knees to make room for them. I appreciate all the help from KENDA, MSR, One Industries, Powersports Grafx and IMS.
