Comments on Performance of Tires:
For the biggest part it was going to be a mostly dry race with a few
creek crossings for good measure. I thought the front K780F would be
a good try on mixed terrain and the Carlsbad would be awesome in the
dry stuff.
Report: The course they laid out last year was done with a
bulldozer. I was hoping for something a little different this year.
I walked the first mile or so and it looked like we were going to
run high speeds thru the woods. Don’t get me wrong, I can ride 5th
gear wide open in the woods, I just don’t prefer to. When you have
an uhoh in the woods at that speed you know it will end with a thump
and a lot of moaning.
I went into turn one in 3rd place. We all stayed nose to tail the
first lap. At about a third of the way thru the second lap we came
up on a hill that had trapped about 50 riders. We all picked a
different line to get around and being the first 2 guys had the #1
and #2 picks I got the #3 pick. It wasn’t bad but it was not as good
as theirs. I slowly closed the gap the rest of the race but was not
able to get around them.
I was pleased with my riding and my result. This was my first
time wearing my new MSR Max Air gear and it felt great. I wear knee
braces and they have made the pants wider at the knees to make room
for them. I appreciate all the help from KENDA, MSR, One Industries,
Powersports Grafx and IMS.
