6/15/08 AMA Eastern National Hare Scramble at
Miles Mountain.
I scored my first ever national win in the 200 A class at
round three of the AMA Eastern National Hare Scrambles Series. The
track was almost perfect in the wooded areas but a bit dusty in the
open field sections. My Kenda Washougals hooked up great on the
start and I was second into the woods. I made a clean pass when the
leader stalled his bike in a tight turn. From there on out I put my
KTM 144 on cruise control for the next three hours and just rode my
own race till the finish.
7/27/08 AMA Eastern National Hare Scramble at Rausch Creek.
I backed up my first national win, only a few weeks later at
round six of the AMA Eastern National Hare Scrambles Series held in
the former coal mining area of Rausch Creek. This time the race
didn't go as smoothly as round three. My Kenda Washougals
got me off
to another great start, pulling a nice holeshot. But I lost the lead
when I snagged a tree and went down. I remounted quickly, but
noticed that my left hand guard had broken loose and was flopping
around, making it difficult to steer. I made it around the first
lap and decided to pull into the pits to get the hand guard removed.
(Thanks Stacey for the quick pit stop.) After the pit stop, I really
put my head down and attacked the treacherous Rausch Creek track. I
picked good lines at the numerous bottlenecks and mud holes to
regain the lead. I kept pushing till I got the checkered flag,
making it a very rewarding victory.
Thanks again for all your support.
